This one's been building for a couple of weeks and just got a lot bigger. It started as a two-lot recall, and FDA's own notice now shows the company pulling every lot of the product off shelves. Here's the full picture, straight from FDA's two company announcements — nothing pulled from news coverage.

Where It Started: Two Lots, September 15

The actual recalled product's front panel label, from FDA's own recall notice — not a stock photo.

Gias Foods, Inc. of New York, NY first announced the recall on September 15, 2026. At that point, it covered 2 lots of bettergoods Authentic Italian Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine — frozen, 22 oz, in yellow plastic packaging, UPC# 194346442706, lot numbers L6079C and L6080C, with expiration dates of 09/19/2027 or 09/20/2027 stamped on the back. The product was distributed nationwide at Walmart stores.

The reason: potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, older or frail people, and anyone with a weakened immune system — and can cause miscarriage or stillbirth in pregnant women. FDA's notice is clear that this was caught through a routine sampling program run by the Washington State Department of Agriculture and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, not because anyone got sick. No illnesses had been reported at that point.

Where It Stands Now: Every Lot, October 1

On October 1, 2026, Gias Foods expanded the recall to all lot codes of the same product — same brand, same UPC# 194346442706, same 22 oz frozen packaging, still sold nationwide at Walmart. FDA's updated notice doesn't list new lot numbers because it now covers every lot in circulation, not a specific subset. The reason given is unchanged: potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination, found through the same state sampling programs. As of this expanded notice, no illnesses have been reported.

Why it expanded instead of staying at two lots: FDA's notice doesn't spell out the exact lab finding that triggered the wider pull, only that the company and FDA are continuing to investigate what caused the contamination. When a company can't yet isolate the problem to a specific production run, pulling every lot is the more cautious move — it's a sign the investigation is still open, not that it's resolved.
